How do we use language to shape the way others perceive us? Éva Szabó’s monograph explores impression management at the intersection of pragmatics and social psychology. Through analyses of political debate programmes, responses to everyday communication scenarios, and news and fake news texts, it examines the relationship between linguistic self-presentation and influence. By also exploring the roles of politeness, attitudes and framing, the volume offers insights into how our linguistic choices shape other people’s impressions of us and the world.
