Tartalom

The party system of Syria between the two world wars was largely determined by colonial conditions. As the country was a French mandate, the operation of the parties was largely dictated by the struggle against colonial rule. After the largescale anti-French uprising in 1925, the National Bloc was considered the most important national party, but it was divided by serious internal disputes. In addition, moderate and radical nationalist organizations coloured the political spectrum. A common characteristic of Syrian parties was elitism, each organization consisting only of followers grouped around a notable leader. Kulcsszavak: Szíria története - 20. sz.
